Subjects pertaining to Canadian literature appear in the pages of many interdisciplinary journals. The American Review of Canadian Studies is a multidisciplinary journal, printing articles devoted to Canadian history, politics, art, film, music, and literature. The variety of subjects covered makes this journal a great resource for staying current on Canadian issues and themes. Recently published articles related to Canadian literature include Cinda Gaultâs âGrooving the Nation: 1965â1980 as a Literary Era in Canadaâ (Autumn 2008), and Jane Mossâs âFrancophone Theater of Western Canada: Dramatic Tales of Disappearing Francophonesâ (March 2009). Issues feature book reviews from all disciplines; however, Canadian novels and critical literary works are particularly well covered. Indexing is provided by the MLAIB and CPI.Q.
Featuring essays from the current Arachne at Rutgers, Arachne: Interdisciplinary Journal of the Humanities/Revue interdisciplinaire de langue et de littérature had its finger on the pulse of a certain element of creative scholarship. Articles addressed topics from outside the mainstream, an approach that some appreciated and others found inaccessible. Publication ceased in 2000, and the journal should not be confused with the title Arachne at Rutgers: Journal of Iberian and Latin American Cultural Studies, which began in 2001. An impassioned introduction to the final two issues by editor Tom Gerry explains that under Laurentian Universityâs business model, publication of an unprofitable journal was simply no longer feasible. As an interdisciplinary journal, Arachne featured only a handful of articles devoted to Canadian literature between 1994 and 2000, the records for which can easily be accessed in a search of the MLAIB.
As the official publication of the Canadian Indian/Native Studies Association, the Canadian Journal of Native Studies prints articles, bibliographies, and book reviews pertaining to all aspects of Native Studies and First Nations peoples. Among the unique submissions related to literature is James Forsytheâs âThe Plains Cree Grotowskiâ (2001, no. 2), which examines aboriginal performance principles.
